2005
Race engineer to Alvaro Parente in 2005 British Formula 3 Championship (Parente needs only 16 of the 22 races to win the Championship, recording 11 race wins). Consultant to Lucas di Grassi and Manor Motorsport in F3 Euroseries (Di Grassi finishes 3rd in the Championship). Contracted to OSCar Automotive, part of the LIFECar consortium, with Morgan Motor Co., Oxford University, Cranfield University, QinetiQ and BOC, aiming to build a practical and sporting road-going prototype powered by a hydrogen fuel-cell.
2004

Contracted by Mygale SARL to design a new F3 car aiming to compete in the Formula 3 Euroseries in 2005.

2001
Contracted to Lister Cars to design Lister Storm LMP. Also assists in development of Lister Storm GT, and engineers one works car in some rounds of 2001 FIA GT series.
1998
Contracted to Panoz Racing. Designs Panoz Roadster S LMP for Le Mans 99 and ALMS 99. Designs the LMP07 Le Mans car.
1996
Contracted to Reynard. Initial design for current Barber Dodge one-make racecar (USA). In charge of Panoz Q9 hybrid IC/electric project. Specific projects on Ford Mondeo BTCC. Wind tunnel program on Funny-Car dragster.
1994
Designs TOMS 035F/036F Formula 3 cars and Toyota LMP1 test car.
1992
Contracted to Van Diemen. Provides Race Engineering on works F3 program. Designs RF95 Formula Ford car and Supersports 2000 sportscar.
1991
Contracted to March Cars, designing Ralt RT36 Formula 3 car. Supervises the wind tunnel program on RT23 Formula 3000 car. Produces concept design for March 92S Group C.
1988
Designs 031F Formula 3 car for TOM'S G.B. Ltd. Thorby contracted as Chief Race Engineer on Toyota WSPC program. Also supplies race engineering services to TOM'S Co. of Japan in Japanese Group C and Japanese F3000, and to Spirit TOM'S in FIA F3000.
1982-88
Supplies Race Engineering and Design Engineering services in F3000 and F3 to Ralt, Reynard, Lola Motorsports etc. Contracted to produce concept design for Group C car for private client.
1981
Thorby joins Nimrod Racing Automobiles. Designs new Group C car for Aston Martin V8 engine. First sportscar with full composite structure - including stressed roof and rollover structure. When Nimrod closes, Thorby forms Amzel as a design and engineering consultancy.
1977
Thorby joins Lola Cars from Specialised Mouldings Ltd., working on projects ranging from Formula Ford to Indycars. Chief Engineer on T600 IMSA/Group C project and T640 Formula Ford.
